Packing and Order Fulfillment Tasks: Maximising Capacity for Effective Handling

August 23, 2016

The packaging and warehouse industry is a vibrant one, and, to be successful like Challenge Packaging and Warehouse Solutions, companies need to fully integrate technologies into every aspect of business that maximises capacity for effective handling of packing and order fulfillment tasks, to meet their clients’ needs. To best accomplish this, Challenge Packaging has a primary objective.

Primary Objective: Efficient Packing and Order Fulfillment Tasks

In today’s busy world, a well-orchestrated order fulfillment system is one that needs the least amount of working time, the most efficient packing techniques and materials, and an effective tracking system. Here, at Challenge Packing and Warehouse Solutions, our order fulfillment team members – packers, understand the complexities of fulfilling clients’ orders on time.

Because packers are the last person to handle products, before they are heat sealed, or shrink wrapped, labelled and shipped to the customer, attention to detail is paramount to prevent errors during handling. Errors such as incomplete orders, product damage, wrong SKU, incorrect size or colour, and incorrect counts. These are effectively averted because of our trained order fulfillment teams who maintain a well organised packing area.

By ensuring that products are packaged correctly, there is less chance of these getting lost in shipping after departing Challenge Packaging’s facilities.

Understanding and Improving a Pick/Pack Order Fulfillment System

To effectively maximise the productivity and work efficiency of packing areas, a close examination of the entire fulfillment process is critical, to view how each task is affecting the packing process. Every task, from order picking to shipping is closely scrutinised and then improved for effective handling, whenever possible. This is done to prevent errors and slowdowns from occurring.

All functions in the process need to be integrated, so that there is a smooth flow in the completion of each task. The sequence of task varies with each application, these include pick orders, check orders, consolidate orders, pack orders, manifest orders, transport consolidated order to the packing areas, label orders, and transport orders to the shipping dock.

To maximise capacity for effective handling, packers will know if consolidation will happen before an order reaches their packing area, and this will then determine the items that are needed to be placed on carts, conveyors, skids or other means of handling.

At Challenge Packaging and Warehouse Solutions, we pride ourselves on our efficient packing and order fulfillment tasks that ensures delivery on time, every time.
